Job summary

Georgetown County School District is seeking a Teacher - Special Education (All SPED certification areas) to join our applicant pool. The role involves delivering special education instruction, planning targeted lessons, and maintaining accurate student records.

The successful candidate will hold SC teacher certification in the appropriate SPED area, possess a degree in a related field, and have or be able to obtain district-approved experience.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Creates a classroom environment conductive to learning and appropriate to student maturity
  • Develops rules of classroom behavior and maintains order fairly
  • Plans a program of study that meets individual student needs and abilities
  • Develops lesson plans and organizes daily classes for demonstration, instruction and practice
  • Guides learning toward curriculum goals with clear objectives for lessons
  • Uses varied instructional techniques and media to meet student needs
  • Assesses student progress and provides progress reports as required
  • Diagnoses learning abilities and seeks district specialist assistance as needed
  • Maintains accurate records as required by law and policy
  • Instructs pupils in equipment use and safety; requests repairs as needed
  • Serves as a role model for students
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education
  • Communicates with parents and counselors on pupil progress
  • Supervises pupils in/out of class during the work day
  • Participates in curriculum and developmental programs
  • Works cooperatively with teachers and staff
  • Confers with parents about educational, social, and personal student matters
  • Assists staff in resolving psychological or disciplinary issues
  • Assists in screening, evaluating and recommending student placement
  • Counsels individuals and groups on educational and occupational goals
  • Generates an Individual Education Plan for next year; attends IEP meetings

Performance Responsibilities
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the student
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
  • Develops lesson plans and organizes daily classes so that demonstration, instruction, and practice can be developed within the allotted time
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs and capabilities of the students involved in the learning activities
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required
  • Diagnoses the learning abilities and disabilities of students on a regular basis. Seeks assistance of district specialists as needed
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrations' regulations
  • Instructs pupils in use, care, and safe operation of equipment. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required
  • Serves as a role model for students
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs
  • Works cooperatively with classroom teachers when appropriate
  • Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and personal problems of such students
  • Assists other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological or disciplinary problems of each student
  • Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of students
  • Counsels individuals and groups of students with educational, occupational, and personal problems
  • Assists students in making realistic assessment of his abilities and in establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities
  • Generates an Individual Education Plan at the end of each school year for the coming school year
  • Attends IEP meetings as deemed necessary and prepares behavioral intervention plans for specified students
  • Supervisor may assign other related duties as needed
