Job summary

DeKalb County Eastern Community School District in Kendallville, IN seeks an Occupational Therapist Assistant to provide direct or consultative OT services across assigned districts. Under supervision of the OTR, you will support IEP development and implementation, collaborate with teachers, and train staff to meet student needs.

The role focuses on delivering tailored therapy, adapting materials, and documenting activities while adhering to NEISEC policies.

Qualifications

• Requires valid Indiana OTA license.

Responsibilities

• Under guidance of the Occupational Therapist-Registered (OTR).
• Collaborate with Case Conference Committee to develop/evaluate student IEPs.
• Communicate with Special Education and General Education teachers to meet student needs.
• Provide direct one-to-one occupational therapy services.
• Train classroom staff in Occupational Therapy related to student needs.
• Adapt materials, curriculum and equipment for individual needs.
• Document all student and teacher contacts.
• Respond to service requests promptly.
• Develop time schedules for approval by the OTR/County Directors.
• Attend in-services and trainings as required.
• Adhere to NEISEC policies and procedures.

Job description

Primary Purpose:

Provides direct or consultation services to assigned students within all assigned districts.

Qualifications:

Holds a valid Indiana license as an Occupational Therapist Assistant.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Strong oral and written communication skills, excellent time management, organizational and decision‑making skills, effective interpersonal skills and leadership ability, ability to accept supervision and perform responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Under the guidance of the Occupational Therapist-Registered (OTR)
• Works with the Case Conference Committee within assigned districts to develop, implement and/or evaluate student individual education plans.
• Communicate with the Special Education and General Education teachers to ensure student needs are being met.
• Provide direct one-to-one service to students in need of occupational therapy.
• Provide training/professional development to classroom staff in the area of Occupational Therapy as it relates to student educational needs.
• Adapt materials, curriculum and equipment to meet individual special needs.
• Document all student and teacher contact regarding specific students.
• Respond to requests for services in a timely manner.
• Develop time schedules for approval by the OTR and/or County Director(s).
• Attend in‑services and training as required.
• Adhere to all NEISEC policies and procedures.
