Citizen Action is seeking a temporary canvasser to join the New York City team. The role focuses on door-to-door outreach in low-income communities to activate residents on affordability and universal child care.

You will report to the Canvass and Mobilization Director and work evenings and weekends. The position involves door-to-door activity for up to 10 hours per week over 8 weeks, with a pay rate of $21.50/hour.

About the organization

Citizen Action is a statewide grassroots movement organization that fights for political, social, racial, economic and environmental justice. We work at the grassroots to give people a sense of their own power. We collaborate with organizations and coalitions in communities throughout New York to address critical issues at the local, state and federal levels.

About the position

Citizen Action is looking to add a temporary canvasser to our New York City team. The canvass position focuses on going door-to-door in low income communities and communities of color in order to activate community members on the issues of affordability and universal child care. This position will report to the Canvass and Mobilization Director.

What you’ll do and the impact you'll make

• Go door to door multiple times a week for a total of 10 hours per week.
• Invite people interested in the organization to join, record responses of community members and track data.
• Identify community members for follow up by organizers based on their interest in our campaign
• Consistently meet quotas for door to door work and recruitment
• Any other duties as required by your supervisor

• Ability to go door-to-door and speak with community members on the phone

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Reliable transportation to travel to canvass turfs (valid driver’s license required if using personal vehicle)
• Ability and willingness to fully adopt use of VAN, Scale to Win Dialer and Text, EveryAction, New/Mode, Google Drive, Slack, Asana, Action Network, and any other tools used by the organizations.
• Availability on evenings and weekends

Location

This position will be based in Staten Island, NY, reporting to that chapters’ office location.

Pay rate: $21.50/hour

Working Hours: 10 hours/week for 8 weeks
