Job Purpose

This assignment has a projected end date of March 31, 2027. This temporary assignment may transition to regular status. The selected candidate must have a current/valid Texas drivers license, with a clean driving record. Provide journey level technical skills associated with monitoring the campus wide Building Automation System (BAS) from a central campus control room. Evaluate the BAS alarms and determine a response and resolution. This position also serves as the afterhours call center for all campus maintenance issues and provides emergency dispatch of personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Monitors the campus Building Automation System (BAS) for proper operation of building mechanical systems and respond to alarm conditions.
  • Analyzes computer generated and phonedin facility related problems, prioritizes and coordinates proper responses.
  • Handles normal and emergency phone calls as the afterhours call center.
  • Dispatches technicians as needed.
  • On occasion will need to be able to respond to crisis situations.
  • Creates accurate and informative work orders.
  • Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors up to date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise, and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met.
  • Works in a professional manner.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs and expectations.
  • Run reports and maintain historical logs.
  • Performs work independently from written or verbal instructions and in accordance with established operating procedures to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Analyzes operating difficulties with building systems using troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques to identify equipment related issues.
  • Monitors the campus Fire Prevention System for maintenance related alarms.
Required Qualifications
  • High school grad or GED.
  • Three (3) years Journey level experience in the installation, repair, maintenance and operation of HVAC building automation controls, refrigeration, controls/operation, or related systems.
  • Experience with HVAC equipment and operation.
  • Solid computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Record information and communicate effectively.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associates degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
  • More than three years experience of the required qualifications.
  • Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience in a Call Center environment.
  • Experience with computerized service request systems.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with the various University communities served.
  • Proven ability to work with a team of multicrafted trades people.
Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Working Conditions

Attire: Business Casual Standard Office Environment, Use of manual dexterity, Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation, Lifting, pushing, or pulling, Standing Work Shift Hours per week - 40 Multiple shifts depending on availability with days rotating to include some weekends. Hours to be discussed with supervisor.

Employment Eligibility

Retirement Plan Eligibility

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
