Job summary

Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) seeks a custodian for Bruce McCandless Community Living Center. The role focuses on daily cleaning and sanitation of the facility, following the established 7-step Routine, and maintaining laundry and basic facility upkeep to ensure a safe, comfortable environment for residents.

Minimum qualifications include 6 months' cleaning experience in a business, medical, or industrial setting. Will require full background checks and state residency.

Job description

This position is only open to current Colorado residents. Bruce McCandless Community Living Center

Colorado State Veterans Homes are State-owned and operated skilled-nursing facilities dedicated to serving those who have served us. We strive to provide excellent customer service and to respect and honor resident choices regarding bathing, rising, bedtimes, and other personal decisions. Our philosophy is to provide residents a home where life and love abound.

Duties
  • Perform daily cleaning, sanitizing, and servicing of assigned work area as per assigned work schedule and procedures in use at the Facility by utilizing approved disinfectants, cleaners, associated chemicals and equipment. Procedures to consist of the established “7-step” Program, Routine. Performs floor work, including scrubbing, spot cleaning, and shampooing.
  • In a method timely to the Facility, handle, sort, load, unload, fold, assign, hang, iron, repair, mend, label and distribute the Resident’s laundry and Facility linen. Utilize approved disinfectants, cleaners, detergents, bleaching agents, soft/sour agents, spotters and associated chemicals. Know and follow procedures in Universal Precautions as well as the programming of all Laundry Equipment. Keep work-related records. Assist with minor maintenance assignments, i.e., changing lamps, changing filters, snow removal, light groundskeeping duties, etc
Minimum Qualifications

6 months experience cleaning in a business, medical or industrial setting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous custodial experience in a long-term care or hospital facility preferred.
  • Previous experience in commercial laundry processing
  • Paying attention to detail, strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Working in a team environment to complete daily workloads and provide support when necessary outside of assigned areas.
  • Excellent customer service skills to include communication with and responding to all levels of employees.
  • Conditions of Employment:
    • FULL BACKGROUND CHECK: This position will have direct contact with vulnerable persons (as defined by C.R.S.27-90-111: "Direct contact" means providing face-to-face care, training, supervision, counseling, consultation, or medication assistance to vulnerable persons, regardless of the level of supervision of the department employee. "Direct contact" may include positions in which persons have access to or unsupervised time with clients or patients, including but not limited to maintenance personnel, housekeeping staff, kitchen staff, and security personnel.)
    • Full background checks include:
      • CBI & FBI fingerprint check, Colorado Court Database check, Medicare Fraud Database, TRAILS Database check.
      • This position will also provide direct care to vulnerable adults requiring a CAPS check (as defined by C.R.S. 26-3.1-101, position provides services & support care to at-risk/vulnerable adults including case management, clergy, physical or mental health services, safety or welfare services) This position requires
  • This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application (unless otherwise identified in the posting), and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment in this position.
  • Must be willing to test for Tuberculosis (TB)
  • Shift work, including days, evenings, weekends, or holidays.
  • Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials: oven cleaner, sanitizer, and bleach
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:
    • Disclose that information on the application.

CDHS Selection Process Explanation

Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.
