Temp-to-Perm Assistant Apparel Designer/Assistant Technical Designer

We are a private label import small business, specializing in missy and plus sleepwear, sportswear, and loungewear. Our office is in the Garment District of NYC. Typically, our orders tend towards high SKUs and low MOQs. We are in the process of increasing our staffing to meet our current workload. Our staff is friendly and competent.
Job description:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Assistant Apparel Designer/Assistant Tech Designer to join our team on a temp-to-permbasis. The primary focus of this role will be technical design, with opportunities to work on design tasks, sales tasks, production tasks, as well as administrative tasks and strategic planning.
Key responsibilities:
- Sample Management Receive and track new samples from factories, monitor shipments, and maintain up-to-date records in spreadsheets. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
- Sample Measurement, Spec’ing, Tech Pack Creation, and Swatch Approvals Once samples are received, find most up-to-date tech pack for each style, print the spec sheet, and measure the garment(s). Enter the new measurements, save the TP with a new name and the date, and potentially email the factory with the TP and comments. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook is required.
- CAD & Print Design Support Assist the Designer/Technical Designer with print layouts, recoloring, modifying existing prints, and creating new designs. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is required.
- Digital and Physical File/Asset Management Maintain and/or improve upon current filing systems, both digitally and physically. This will involve the saving of documents and sorting of emails digitally and document and sample filing physically. Update spreadsheets as needed. Strong organizational skills and Microsoft Excel proficiency are required.
- General Administrative Support Perform additional administrative tasks as needed to support the team and daily operations.
Qualifications:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign
- Design and Technical Design portfolio required with resume submission (it can be a link on the resume)
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
Preferred Candidate:
- Priority consideration will be given to candidates with 1 or more years of professional experience in apparel design and/or technical design
- Priority consideration will be given to candidates with strong patternmaking, fabric, and garment construction knowledge
Work Location:
In-office 5 days/week
Compensation:
Temp-to-Perm Trial period of 3 months – if a good fit, will be hired permanently Initial Pay Range $22-$27/hour
