Job summary

Gettysburg College’s Musselman Library invites a service-oriented librarian to join its Research & Access Services department for a temporary appointment (January 2027 – May 2028). The role includes staffing the service desk, delivering library instruction, and supporting students and faculty in research across the campus.

The successful candidate will supervise 30+ Circulation Student Assistants, develop online guides, and participate in outreach, liaison activities, and collection development

Qualifications

• ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science by January 18, 2027.
• Experience providing library reference services.
• Familiarity with information literacy concepts and trends.
• High degree of initiative and flexibility.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong service orientation and ability to interact with students, faculty, and public.

Responsibilities

• Staff the combined service desk to provide research help and circulation services, including one evening per week during sessions and some weekends.
• Design, teach, and assess course-related library instruction in collaboration with faculty.
• Consult with students about research and develop online guides and tutorials.
• Plan and implement outreach activities promoting library services and collections.
• Participate in hiring, training, and supervision of 30+ Circulation Student Assistants and mentors.
• Engage in collection development, liaison duties, library committees, and professional development.
