Job summary

Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh invites applications for a Project Technician – Temporary to support a National Endowment for the Humanities project focused on the Dahshur boats of Senwosret III. The technician will learn the multiband imaging protocol and perform photography and image processing for 90 planks in the museum’s Visible Lab.

This full-time, temporary, benefits-eligible position begins October 2026 and ends around April 5, 2027.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent coursework in natural science/anthropology/chemistry/physics preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year in a conservation lab/department or related discipline.
  • Experience with multiband photography and Agisoft Metashape preferred.
  • Ability to follow procedures with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with photography equipment and working with computers.

Responsibilities

  • Meet daily with project lead and other team members; assist documentation of the Dahshur boat.
  • Follow object handling protocols as instructed by project lead and lab manager.
  • Safely handle, move, and position wooden planks; report condition concerns.
  • Wrap or pad objects to protect against vibration, moisture, or impact as directed.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and orderly work areas daily.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
