Job summary

Wichita State University is seeking a part-time College Access Mentor/Tutor for the GEAR UP Heights & Southeast program in Wichita, KS. On-site position with hours Mon-Fri; evenings and weekends as needed for events.

Pay is $20/hour with 10 hours per week (20 per pay period). Responsibilities include working with grades 6-12 students, monitoring progress, FAFSA completion, and coordinating college visits, workshops, and advising.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 60 credit hours completed in Education, Counseling, Social Services or related field.
• 6 months experience working with students in grades 6-12.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must escort students on campus visits; may involve lots of walking.
• May be asked to make community and school presentations.
• Overnight travel to training and conferences may be required.

Responsibilities

• Works with students at Curtis, Coleman and Stucky Middle Schools and feeding into Heights and Southeast High School to provide college going services.
• Monitors and tracks student academic progress, graduation, enrollment in college and FAFSA completion.
• Provides grant related activities such as workshops and college campus visits, academic advising, career exploration and job search.
• Mentoring, tutoring resources, and summer programs for students.
