Job summary

Texas School for the Deaf Elementary in Austin, Texas is seeking an ELC/Elementary Teacher Assistant (Temporary) to support instructional delivery for deaf and hard of hearing students. The role adapts materials and learning experiences, supervises students, and collaborates with teachers under supervision from the principal.

The position is temporary for two school years (2026-2027 and 2027-2028), 189 days, 40 hours per week, starting immediately.

Qualifications

• 0-3 years' experience in child care work or related training.
• Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
• Sign Language skills at ADVANCED level (SCPI).

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with instructional needs for deaf students.
• Help design and prepare age-appropriate materials and activities.
• Monitor students in classroom, cafeteria, playground, and other areas.
• Provide support for students with physical needs and personal care.
• Assist with behavior management to maintain a safe, orderly environment.
• Communicate with teachers and staff about student progress and needs.
