Job summary

The City of Garland is seeking a custodial worker to perform semi-skilled labor in keeping offices, buildings and grounds clean and orderly. This temporary assignment runs through March 2027 with a fixed schedule from Monday to Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The position offers a $17.00 hourly pay rate and requires a HS diploma or GED, with no experience required. Responsibilities include cleaning floors, woodwork, furniture and fixtures, maintaining cleanliness of bathrooms, and handling

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, shampoo and scrub facility floors.

• Maintain sanitary facilities and clean sinks, mirrors, countertops, toilets, and drinking fountains.
• Complete special projects as assigned.

Summary

Responsible for performing semi-skilled manual labor work in keeping offices, buildings and surrounding grounds in a clean and orderly condition. This is a temporary assignment expected to last through March 2027. Schedule: Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Other duties may be assigned.
• Maintain City facilities’ flooring by sweeping, mopping, shampooing and scrubbing.
• Clean woodwork, furniture, desk, chairs, filing cabinets and telephones.
• Complete detailed vacuuming of carpets and other applicable surfaces.
• Maintain sanitary condition of facilities by cleaning sinks, mirrors, countertops, toilets and drinking fountains.
• Complete special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
• No experience required
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

• 6 months to 1 year experience in maintenance, custodial services or similar experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• General knowledge of maintenance upkeep
• Skill in operating general cleaning maintenance equipment
• Ability to work to make independent decisions
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with City personnel

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

• The incumbent works in an outdoor and indoor environment; with occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
• Requires ability to carry 20 to 30 pounds.
• Tasks require physical labor, exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals.
