Job summary

City of Garland is seeking a custodial worker to perform semi-skilled manual labor in keeping offices, buildings and surrounding grounds clean and orderly. Schedule: Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

This is a temporary assignment through March 2027, with a pay rate of $17.00 per hour. Essential duties include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning woodwork and fixtures, maintaining sanitary conditions, and completing special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• No experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain City facilities’ flooring by sweeping, mopping, shampooing and scrubbing.
• Clean woodwork, furniture, desk, chairs, filing cabinets and telephones.
• Complete detailed vacuuming of carpets and other surfaces.
• Maintain sanitary conditions by cleaning sinks, mirrors, countertops, toilets and drinking fountains.
• Complete special projects as assigned.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)


• No experience required


• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

• 6 months to 1 year experience in maintenance, custodial services or similar experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• General knowledge of maintenance upkeep


• Skill in operating general cleaning maintenance equipment


• Ability to work to make independent decisions


• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with City personnel

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works in an outdoor and indoor environment; with occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Requires ability to carry 20 to 30 pounds. Tasks require physical labor, exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals
