Job summary

Bossier-Federal Credit Union in Cloverdale, LA is seeking a full-time Teller to handle deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, money orders, and related transactions with accuracy and courtesy.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS POSITION REPORTS TO: Branch Manager, Front Line Supervisor
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: N/A

POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for providing a variety of paying and receiving functions, including processing deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, cashiers’ checks, money orders, and cash advances. Balances each day's transactions and verifies cash totals. Performs specific assigned side-jobs and assists other tellers with a variety of duties as required. Ensures members are promptly and professionally served.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
  • Assumes responsibility for the efficient, effective, and accurate performance of Teller functions.
    • Receives checks and cash in-person and/or by mail for deposit to accounts/loans. Verifies transactions. Monitors deposit amounts and examines documents for endorsement and negotiability. Detects and resolves discrepancies promptly.
    • Processes transfers.
    • Disburses cash or check withdrawals.
    • Processes cash advances, cashiers’ checks, money orders, government bonds, and similar transactions.
    • Balances cash drawer at the end of the shift and compare totaled amounts to computer generated proof sheet. Research and resolve discrepancies. Report any discrepancies to the supervisor as necessary.
    • Maintains an up-to‑date comprehensive knowledge on all credit union products and services that are handled or promoted by tellers. Maintains an up-to‑date and comprehensive knowledge on all related policies and procedures, rules, and regulations for the teller area, including robbery procedures.
    • Count, check, and package coins and currency.
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective, professional business relations with members.
    • Greets and welcomes members to the credit union in a courteous, professional, and timely manner, providing prompt, accurate, and efficient member transactions.
    • Ensures members' requests and questions are promptly resolved.
    • Receives and processes changes of name, addresses, and other account information as needed.
    • Maintains privacy of member account information.
    • Maintains and projects the credit union’s professional reputation by executing its brand standards.
  • Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective coordination and working relationships with area personnel and with management.
    • Assists area personnel as required.
    • Keeps supervisor informed of area activities and of any significant problems or concerns.
    • Completes required reports and records accurately and promptly.
    • Attends meetings as required.
  • Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
    • Performs drive‑up teller and night drop functions as assigned.
    • Ensures work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
    • Ensures that the teller station is properly stocked with forms, supplies, brochures, etc.
    • Performs related clerical duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent required.

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of Teller policies and procedures preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Prior teller or other cash handling experience preferred. Prior customer service experience required.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Good communication skills. Professional appearance, dress, and attitude. Good math skills. Ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment including adding machine, typewriter, copy machine, coin and money counting machines, and telephone. Good typing skills.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION PHYSICAL STRENGTH

Sedentary work; some movement around the teller line. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs.)

WORKING CONDITIONS

No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions (such as in a typical office).
