Job summary

Midland-Health-2 is seeking a Behavioral Health Assistant (BHA) focused on patient safety. The role requires continuous observation of patients, safe environment, and collaboration with staff, physicians, families and visitors.

The position offers full-time hours (days and nights), use of AvaSys TeleSitter, and adherence to hospital policies. Education includes a high school diploma; Texas CNA preferred; MHFA training within 3 months and annual refreshers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current State of Texas Certification as a Certified Nurse Aid preferred.
• Must complete Mental Health First aid course within 3 months and complete 2 hours of mental health education annually.

Responsibilities

• Maintains visual observation of patients at all times.
• Redirects patient verbally via digital 2-way audio device in the room; summons nursing staff as needed.
• Demonstrates positive communication with patients, families, physicians and healthcare team members.
• Communicates with team when a patient poses a threat to themselves or others.
• Identifies and reports patient safety issues; removes safety hazards from rooms; reports findings to the healthcare team.
• Follows safe work practices and safety rules; participates in safety programs.
• Maintains dignity and privacy of patients and families.
• Uses safe patient handling and mobility equipment to ensure patient safety.
• Assists in collecting patient safety data.

Education

High school diploma

Texas CNA certification preferred

Mental Health First Aid training within 3 months
