Job summary

Affiliated Oncologists in Chicago is seeking a Telephone Operator to provide a full range of switchboard duties, triage calls, and relay messages. You will serve as a liaison between patients and medical staff in a busy office environment.

This entry-level role requires a high school diploma and 0–3 years of experience, preferably in a medical setting. The position offers on-site work and comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming calls courteously and connect to correct extension.
  • Take and relay messages accurately and promptly.
  • Respond to emergencies and urgent calls from patients.
  • Direct callers to clinical staff as needed.
  • Perform operator duties such as triaging, transferring calls, arranging conference calls, and reporting system malfunctions.
  • Provide a helpful phone presence for callers.
  • Open and close the switchboard and manage in-house paging.
  • Perform clerical duties to maintain workflow in the department.

Join Affiliated Oncologists as a Telephone Operator!

AO specializes in treating a variety of cancers including lymphoma lung, breast, prostate, gynecologic, colorectal and head and neck cancers. Our physicians and staff are multi-disciplinary team of highly experiencedcaregivers focused on helping patients and their families receive the best care and support possible.

SCOPE: Under direct supervision, is responsible for providing a full range of telephone switchboard duties, including triaging calls and relaying messages. Assists with clerical duties as required. Serves as a liaison between patients and medical staff. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Courteously and efficiently answers all incoming calls and connects callers with the correct extension.
  • Takes and relays messages in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Responds to emergency and urgent calls from patients in a timely manner.
  • Directs callers immediately to clinical staff as necessary.
  • Performs operator functions including triaging calls; connecting and transferring calls; setting up conference calls; instructing users on telephone procedures; and reporting telephone and equipment malfunctions to the appropriate party.
  • Provides a pleasant and helpful phone contact for callers.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the switchboard.
  • Responsible for the in-house paging system.
  • Performs clerical duties as assigned to maintain workflow in the department.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Position is entry level and requires 0-3 years experience, preferably in a medical setting.

Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts.

Hourly Range

HOURLY RANGE:
