We're seeking a Teleoperation Software Engineer to build the real-time systems that let humans operate robots across the globe with precision and reliability. You’ll architect low-latency control and video pipelines that support high-bandwidth streaming, real-time command feedback loops, and intuitive operator interfaces. Your work will bridge control theory, network optimization, and multimedia streaming into seamless telepresence experiences.

What you'll do

  • Develop and optimize real-time teleop control loops for robotic systems over unstable networks
  • Design resilient, low-latency video pipelines for multi-camera HD streaming using WebRTC, RTSP, or custom protocols
  • Architect systems that synchronize joystick/tactile input with robot actuation under strict timing constraints
  • Implement fallback behaviors and predictive smoothing to ensure safe operation in lossy conditions
  • Collaborate with UI and fleet teams to build intuitive, responsive control stations for operators
  • Integrate networking stacks that support multiplexed video, telemetry, and control over WebSockets or QUIC

What you bring

  • Deep understanding of control systems, real-time feedback loops, and signal filtering
  • Experience working with video encoding, decoding, and streaming protocols(WebRTC, H.264, VP9, RTSP)
  • Proficiency in designing low-latency networked systems in C++, Rust, or Go
  • Familiarity with operator-centric interfaces (e.g., gamepad input, ROS teleop, or custom web UIs)
  • Strong debugging skills across network layers, timing issues, and stream synchronization
  • Bonus: Experience with ROS, Unreal/Unity integrations, or remote driving of mobile robots

Additional Notes

  • Our team develops on physical robots in person
  • Need to be located or willing to relocate in San Francisco, CA

About Us

Avatar Robotics (www.avatarrobotics.com) is building flexible robot fleets to revolutionize industrial work across the country. We’re on a mission to make every tedious and dangerous warehouse/factory job virtual, safe, and semi-autonomous.

With proven AI approaches and overseas teleoperation, you’ll join a team that deploys a physical work solution that’s scalable now, not later. We envision a world where millions of machines will make our goods and consumables more affordable and accessible than ever, while critical workers operate these robot fleets from the comfort of their homes.

At Avatar Robotics, you’ll create the workforce of the future—In one of largest markets ($1T+ manual labor market in the US alone).

We’re a small, but powerful team at the early innings of deploying thousands of units into facilities worldwide.
