Job Description

Reports to and is under the general supervision of the Manager and/or Assistant Manager of MS7. The Telemetry Technician monitors cardiac rhythms, records pertinent data, and reports abnormalities to the medical team.

Responsibilities
  • Based on orders placed by physicians and under supervision of registered nurses, monitor cardiac rhythms, record pertinent data, and report abnormalities to the medical team in accordance with established protocols.
  • Apply knowledge of age‑related differences and needs of patients from neonate through adolescence to practice.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all interactions with coworkers, patients, and family members.
  • Demonstrate support for the mission, values, and goals of the organization through behaviors consistent with Connecticut Children’s standards.
  • Understand and follow Connecticut Children’s policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Required
  • Successful completion of a telemetry technician program with certificate or equivalent documentation. High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of Connecticut Children’s Cardiac Monitor Technician Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Minimum 1 year of related job experience working in a telemetry role. Basic familiarity with computers and basic level web‑based applications and Microsoft Office.
License and/or Certifications Required
  • CPR/BLS for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross (preferred at time of hire).
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training certification required within 3 months of hire and maintained thereafter.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to learn basic medical terminology, mathematics, and measurements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. Ability to communicate in English is required.
  • Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.
  • Learn and follow established protocols.
  • Learn and demonstrate competency in reading and interpreting cardiac rhythms.
  • Ability to demonstrate competency in cardiac telemetry monitoring.

MS7 is a very fast paced medical surgical floor with 28 beds where our average patient turnaround and length of stay is between 24 hours to 3 days. We specialize in the care of children with complex Neurology, Cardiology, Pulmonary, and Urology conditions as well as other general medical ailments. Our team is family oriented and we pride ourselves on teamwork, discovery, advocacy, communication, and providing compassionate care. We work closely with a multitude of specialty areas including both the Neonatal and Pediatric intensive care units. We strive to provide patient and family centered care that incorporates our families input to ensure a comprehensive plan of care.
