Job summary

The New Mexico VA Health Care System is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the 5D Telemetry Acute Care Service. The NA will provide direct patient care under supervision, monitor patient conditions, and assist with activities of daily living in a high-acuity telemetry unit.

Qualified applicants will have the ability to observe and respond to patient needs, communicate effectively with the care team, and follow VA policies.

Qualifications

• Six months of general experience or education/training as a Nursing Assistant
• English language proficiency and ability to communicate with patients and staff
• Ability to observe patients and refer deviations to supervisor
• Ability to use basic nursing equipment and perform simple procedures
• Precepting or mentoring responsibilities for new NAs may be involved if needed

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient/resident care under RN/LPN supervision
• Assist with activities of daily living and basic nursing tasks
• Document care and observations in patient records
• Assist with observation of patient status and report changes promptly
• Utilize equipment for routine care and basic treatments
