Summary

The Telemetry Monitor Technician (TMT) will monitor, recognize and report cardiac arrhythmias to the RN caring for the patient. The TMT will also observe a group of patients remotely using continuous tele-visual monitoring to assure patient safety. In addition, the TMT will perform other duties related to patient monitoring and equipment maintenance in the central station and on the patient care units.

Responsibilities
  1. Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms for assigned patients.
  2. Observe patients remotely using continuous visual monitoring for safety issues.
  3. Document cardiac rhythms and patient behaviors/interventions.
  4. Deliver rhythm strips and documentation to patient care units.
  5. Collaborate with nursing leadership to prioritize monitoring resources.
  6. Set up and disconnect monitors and cameras, maintaining equipment.
  7. Identify problems, suggest solutions, and participate in their resolution.
  8. Maintain confidentiality of patient, physician, employee, and visitor information.
  9. Perform duties safely, report hazards, and ensure personal and team safety.
  10. Provide culturally competent patient care considering age and development.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write English at high school level.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Experience reading monitors or EKGs required.
  • Complete a basic arrhythmia class within 30 days of employment.
  • Pass an arrhythmia competency test during annual training.
  • Effective communication skills with healthcare team members.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work under stress, remain calm, and work quickly with accuracy.
  • Sit for long periods and walk long distances.
  • Visual acuity to observe monitors and analyze strips.
