Job Summary

The Monitor Technician is responsible for continuous surveillance of telemetry monitors to assess and document patient cardiac rhythms. They identify arrhythmias, communicate findings to the healthcare team, and ensure monitoring equipment is functional and accurately configured. The role supports patient safety and effective care delivery.

Essential Functions
  • Continuously observe and interpret patient telemetry monitors, accurately recording rhythm strips at established intervals.
  • Identify and promptly notify the nurse or licensed personnel of any rhythm changes, including potentially life-threatening arrhythmias.
  • Maintain effective communication with peers, staff, physicians, and leaders for seamless care coordination.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with monitoring equipment, escalating unresolved problems to Bio-med or IT as needed.
  • Organize and track monitoring equipment during shifts, ensuring proper configuration for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Ensure accurate lead placement and electrode application for optimal telemetry monitoring.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a telemetry or EKG interpretation course during orientation is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting EKG rhythms and identifying arrhythmias.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to stay focused in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot telemetry monitoring equipment.
  • Knowledge of patient safety protocols and escalation processes.
  • Organizational skills for equipment tracking and documentation.
Licenses and Certifications
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support certification required.
