Telemetry Monitor Tech at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Fort Worth:

  • The Telemetry Monitor Technician is responsible for accurate record keeping, observation of monitors and prompt reporting of cardiac rhythm changes.
  • As the Patient Care Technician, individual will interface with visitors, patients, family, and physicians on phone and in person for Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth and Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Outpatient Center.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent

Licensure/Certification:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Patient Care Technician (PCT), Medical Assistant (MA) Certification, or equivalent
  • Monitor Tech Certification, or completion of a basic dysrhythmias course with documented competencies
  • BLS Required

Specific Job Experience:

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a hospital setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Good communication and people skills
  • Excellent clinical skills appropriate for a medical assistant, nursing assistant or patient care tech
  • Ability to utilize Electronic Healthcare Record for patient documentation.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors cardiac rhythms throughout the facility via centrally located telemetry monitors.
  • Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patients’ cardiac rhythms and communicates information about dysrhythmias to the patient care nurse/Charge Nurse.
  • Measures and interprets patients’ heart rhythms and documents in patient record, per policy.
  • Initiates/discontinues monitoring on admission, transfer or discharge. Performs configuration as necessary.
  • Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from patient care units and/or physicians.
  • Troubleshoots monitors with nursing staff and contacts Facilities/Biomed as appropriate.
  • Gives report to oncoming shift.
  • Cleans monitoring equipment, per policy
  • Performs clerical duties including distribution of messages.
  • Performs clinical duties, under the direction of an RN or LVN, including assisting patients to the restroom, removing IV catheters, etc.
  • Cleans rooms if needed.
  • Provides clinical, clerical and telephone support in emergencies
  • Assists RN’s as instructed.
  • Any other duties as instructed by supervisor
