Job summary

GI Alliance in San Antonio is seeking a Telephone Triage - Medical Assistant to assess patients by phone, portal, or text. You will collaborate with providers to ensure high-quality care while complying with HIPAA, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities include prioritizing triage needs, triaging inquiries, scheduling with physicians, and maintaining detailed patient documentation. Strong communication and computer skills, plus at least 1 year of triage experience, are preferred.

Qualifications

• One year triage experience preferred (1-4 years MA experience) and/or meet the basic requirements of the job with the need for additional supervision.
• Education: High school diploma or GED, medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a college course in medical assisting.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, prioritize, and respond to triage needs on the phone line, patient portal, or HIPAA compliant texting application.
• Respond to patient inquiries, prioritizing responses and routing urgent situations to a physician or provider.
• Talk with patients via phone, portal, or texting to schedule appointments with their physician during office hours.
• Maintain accurate, clear progress notes, problem lists, and medication lists in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
• Arrange appointments for patients who need to see a physician and consult with the physician as needed.
• Deliver patient education as prescribed by the Provider and/or Group policy.
• Serve as a clinical resource and professional role model for other staff.
