Job summary

VT Group (VTG) seeks a Telecommunications Technician 3 - Lead Technician/Supervisor in Washington, DC to oversee structured cabling installs, fiber/copper, and telecom closet builds. Responsibilities include testing, troubleshooting, and coordinating on-site activities with VTG project management.

The role requires 5+ years of experience, clearance (Secret or TS/SCI preferred), and ability to work locally within 50 miles of DC. Candidate must have PPE and basic tools and be a U.S. citizen.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in telecommunications or related field.
• Secret or higher clearance (TS/SCI) preferred.
• Ability to perform basic algebra and geometry for calculations.
• Proficiency with database software and MS Office.
• BICSI Level 2 certification preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must provide PPE and basic hand tools for cabling technicians.
• US citizen; able to work in Washington, DC area.
• Willingness to travel up to 50 miles from location.
• CAC badge preferred; DoD clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee/assist in installation of structured cabling (fiber optic and copper).
• Oversee/assist in building telecommunication closets per standards.
• Ensure grounding/bonding compliance with codes.
• Ensure fire stopping procedures are followed.
• Oversee/assist testing and troubleshooting of cabling systems.
• Maintain transmission fundamentals of copper and fiber media.
• Apply Outside Plant knowledge for rodding, roping, and fiber splicing/tipping.
• Troubleshoot system to determine hardware vs cabling issues.
• Test/evaluate new or existing hardware for efficiency and reliability.
• Consult manuals to select equipment meeting requirements.
• Visit vendors to learn about products/services.
• Review and approve timesheets/expense reports; submit per procedures.
• Prepare site/project reports as required.

What will you do?

• Oversees or assists in the installation of structured cabling systems (fiber optic and copper).
• Oversees or assists in building telecommunication closets while adhering to applicable standards and specifications.
• Ensures grounding and bonding are compliant with applicable standards and codes.

Do you have what it takes?

• 5 plus years of experience
• Secret Clearance or TS/SCI
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; and MS Office Products.
• BICSI Level 2 certification is preferred.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Must have their own PPE and Basic hand tools for cabling technicians
• Must be local or within 50 miles of location
• Must be US Citizen
• Must be able to support installation schedule and meet budgets provided by VTG Project Manager. PM may not be on site but will report daily to PM on status and progress made
• Must be capable of getting ladders, lifting boxes, materials, etc.
• Must have PPE equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, etc)
• Supervision experience managing multiple cabling installation crews for installing new copper, fiber, backbone/riser cabling
• Ability to understand floor plans, telecom room layouts, and provide redlines for final Asbuilds
• Material understanding and ability to confirm materials
• Ability to terminate all types of fiber and copper cables using all types of connectors
• Experience in installation of cable conveyances (cable tray, J hooks, ladder rack)
• Telecom room buildout experience (racks/cabinets, patch panels, grounding, etc)
• Testing experience using Fluke or equivalent test sets for fiber and copper
• Troubleshooting experience
• CAC Badge (Preferred)
• DoD Secret or higher clearance (Preferred)
• Communicate daily with VTG PM (remotely or on site) on progress made

Pay Range: VTG’s estimated starting pay range is $40-$50 per hour, which is a general guideline for the geographic location. When extending an offer, VTG also considers work experience, education, skill level, market considerations and may possibly include contractual requirements which may cause an offer to fall outside of this range.
