Job description

Overview: VTG is seeking a team of Telecommunication Technicians to support a variety of projects in Philadelphia, PA and OCONUS travel locations.

What will you do? Familiar with a variety of complex installations and repairs of telecommunications systems and equipment, and performs the following duties:

  1. Uses knowledge of and experience with Inside and Outside Plant operations to ensure rodding, roping, and fiber splicing and tipping are properly performed.
  2. Oversees or participates in the installation of structured cabling systems (fiber optic and copper).
  3. Oversees or participates in building telecommunication closets while adhering to applicable standards and specifications.
  4. Ensures grounding and bonding are compliant with applicable standards and codes.
  5. Ensures fire stopping procedures are accurately followed.
  6. Oversees or participates in testing and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems.
  7. Ensures transmission fundamentals of copper and fiber media are maintained.
  8. Troubleshoots entire communications system to determine if problems are related to hardware or cabling.
  9. Tests and evaluates newly installed or existing hardware to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility.
  10. Utilizes technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment which meets establishment requirements.
  11. Reviews timesheets and expense reports for accuracy, approves these documents, and ensures they are submitted in accordance with company procedures.
  12. Compiles, reviews and/or submits other reports, such as site reports or project status reports, as required by management.

Do you have what it takes?

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of Database software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: BICSI Installer or Technician preferred. Factory training / certifications such as Corning, Commscope, Panduit, etc, preferred. Valid driver's license if required to drive company owned or rented vehicles.

Clearance: Active DOD Secret security clearance and the ability to obtain a DOD Top Secret security clearance.

Other: Must have valid US Passport with at least six months before expiration. Job includes local and worldwide travel. Capable of climbing ladders and working in confined spaces in support of the telecommunications scope. Experience in understanding of floor plan drawings showing locations of work area outlets, telecom closet layouts, rack/cabinet mounting/grounding, and other schematics. Experience in installation of cable conveyances such as J-hooks, cable tray, conduit, ladder rack, etc.
