Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Telecommunications Engineering Technician to support the FAA's Central Service Area - Engineering Services Group across the United States. The role focuses on upgrading infrastructure and moving from TDM to IP, including replacement of telecom hardware and related components.

The candidate will perform site surveys, draft reports, coordinate with multiple teams, and develop transition plans while ensuring safety and compliance standards are met. Travel up to 75% is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree.
  • Travel up to 75% is expected.
  • Ability to obtain Public Trust Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Review FAA databases and draft Site Survey Reports (SSR).
  • Conduct site surveys and draft SSR.
  • Coordinate schedules with SSC, ES, and Verizon personnel.
  • Draft Project Risk Plans (PRP) and ORMs.
  • Generate and update drawings, sketches, and artifacts.
  • Draft site preparation activity plans.
  • Coordinate outages with SSC, ATC and Operations personnel.
  • Develop transition plans and resolve schedule conflicts.
  • Accompany unbadged personnel at facilities.
  • Work with LECs on schedules.
  • Develop briefings/reports on District status.
  • Collaborate with Districts/SSCs on interstate service flows and cutovers.
  • Support District POC and SSC day-to-day activities.
  • Review Verizon SSIP for comments.

Job description

The National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) program at Leidos is seeking a Telecommunications Engineering Technician to provide support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Central Service Area - Engineering Services Group located across the United States.

The ideal candidate will support the daily operations of the FAA’s Legacy Infrastructure to Future Technologies Portfolio and the goal of converting National Airspace Connectivity from TDM to IP. The scope includes Telecommunications Infrastructure Replacement, Small Tower Voice Switches, Air to Ground Protocol Converters and NEXCOM Radios.

Telecommunications Engineering Technician Job Duties Include:

  • Review FAA data bases and provide input and or draft Site Survey Reports (SSR).
  • Conduct site surveys to provide input and/or draft Site Survey Reports.
  • Coordinate schedules with SSC, ES, and Verizon personnel.
  • Draft Project Risk Plans (PRP) and Operational Risk Management Plans (ORMP).
  • Generate and/or update drawings, sketches, and artifacts.
  • Draft project plans for site preparation activities.
  • Coordinate scheduled outages with SSC, Air Traffic and Operations personnel.
  • Develop transition plans.
  • Resolve schedule conflicts.
  • Accompany unbadged personnel at facilities.
  • Work with LECs on schedules.
  • Develop briefings/information/reports on District status.
  • Work with other Districts/SSC on interstate service flows, transitions, cutovers, planning, etc.
  • Support District POC and SSCs with day-to-day work activities.
  • Review and provide comments on Verizon Site Specific Implementation Plans (SSIP).

Telecommunications Engineering Technician Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering and 2+ years of relevant experience OR a Master’s degree. Additional experience may be substituted/considered/accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to travel up to 75%
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance Suitability (To be eligible for Public Trust Security Clearance, one must be either a U.S. Citizen OR a U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card holder who has resided in the U.S.A for the past 3 years.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suites.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience working with Telco systems performing Network Troubleshooting.
  • Proficient working with AutoCAD or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Assoc (NFPA) standards, National Airspace System Equipment Tower.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and general construction and electrical safety standards.
  • Knowledge of NAS facilities such as ASR, ATCT, VOR, ARSR, RCAG.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $59,150.00 - $106,925.00
