Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Telecommunications Design Engineer to support complex infrastructure projects in critical facilities. The role is onsite in Rock Hill, SC, with responsibilities across design lifecycle, coordination with multiple teams, and BIM/CAD deliverables.

Salary ranges from $100,000 to $115,000 annually with a full benefits package. The candidate should have 2+ years of experience and CAD/BIM proficiency; travel up to 10% may be required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop, identify, coordinate, and track project requirements throughout the design lifecycle.
• Coordinate connectivity requirements with Data/Networking, AV, Security, MEP and others.
• Coordinate telecommunications space plans with Architecture, MEP and Electronic Systems teams.
• Coordinate detailed pathway designs for indoor/outdoor cabling; BIM coordination.
• Write and respond to RFIs and produce design drawings in AutoCAD/REVIT.
• Create BOMs and data deliverables meeting project criteria.
• Apply QA processes to ensure constructible and compliant deliverables.
• Perform site surveys and develop field reports with solutions.

Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Telecommunications Design Engineer to support complex infrastructure projects within the critical facilities and systems integration industry. The Telecommunications Design Engineer role is ideal for an early- to mid-career engineer with hands-on experience in structured cabling design, multidisciplinary coordination, and telecommunications infrastructure supporting enterprise and mission-critical environments. This role is fully on site in Rock Hill, SC.

Responsibilities of the Telecommunications Design Engineer:

• Develop, identify, coordinate, and track project requirements throughout the design lifecycle.
• Coordinate communication connectivity requirements including backbone and inter-rack cabling, work area outlet types, cabling media and connector types, system topology, and device locations with Data and Wireless Networking, Audio Visual, Security, Mechanical, Electrical, and other stakeholders.
• Coordinate detailed telecommunications space plans in collaboration with Architecture, MEP, and Electronic Systems teams.
• Coordinate detailed telecommunications pathway designs for inside and outside plant cabling infrastructure, including fill calculations and BIM coordination.
• Identify, write, and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
• Produce coordinated detailed design and construction drawings using AutoCAD and/or REVIT based on project requirements and specifications.
• Develop coordinated telecommunications construction specifications aligned with project criteria.
• Create and manage cable run lists and system labeling documentation.
• Create and manage cable acceptance testing plans in accordance with specification requirements.
• Identify products, create Bills of Materials (BOMs), and develop Product Data deliverables that meet system and project requirements.
• Apply and follow established quality control processes to ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements, are constructible, and comply with internal engineering standards.
• Perform site surveys, produce field reports, and identify, propose, and develop technical solutions based on site conditions.
• Produce prefabrication designs and develop test procedures for Pre-Installation and Check Out (PITCO) activities.
• Develop and apply working knowledge of relevant NFPA codes, TIA standards, BICSI publications, and other applicable design criteria.

Qualifications of the Telecommunications Design Engineer:

• Bachelor's degree in an applicable Engineering discipline with 2+ years of experience in the telecommunications structured cabling industry.
• Experience with inside and outside plant pathways, cabling systems, components, testing, and design.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
• Willingness to expand technical knowledge to support new systems and technologies as project needs evolve.
• Demonstrated basic understanding of TIA standards and NFPA codes.
• Ability to successfully pass an extensive background investigation.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% as required.
• Experience with CAD and/or BIM platforms such as AutoCAD or REVIT.
• Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, EIT/FE, PE, LEED, CAPM, DBIA, or BICSI RCDD are a plus.
• Prior field installation and testing experience and manufacturer certifications are a plus.

Compensation for the Telecommunications Design Engineer includes:

• Annual Salary: $100,000 - $115,000 depending on experience
