American Electric Power is seeking a Telecommunications Consultant SG7 to support enterprise network transport operations. The role covers installation, configuration, and performance analysis of transport technologies, including Fiber Optic, DWDM, and microwave systems, with emphasis on operation and maintenance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field.
• Associate's degree with 2 years of relevant work experience.
• HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience.

Responsibilities

• Support AEP Fiber Optic, Microwave and P.25 800Mhz radio systems (Transport Systems).
• Shared 24x7x365 on-call with 6 other engineers
• Break/Fix support of AEP Transport network systems
• Remotely support project-based field change control work associated with deploying Fiber Optic, Microwave and P.25 radio systems
• Follow the AEP change management process and AEP standard for changing any configuration in the network including peer reviews on field transport impacting changes
• Documentation upkeep – ServiceNow Asset, Monitoring Systems, Process Docs, Timekeeping, Goal Performance, Status Reporting, Change Control,
• Project Task and time scheduling management/meetings

Job Summary

This position will directly support the enterprise network transport operations. Participates in the installation, configuration, and performance analysis of transport network technologies with a primary focus on operation and maintenance for transport networks to include; Fiber Optic Cable, DWDM, Ciena, Nokia, Ribbon, Icons, Microwave (Aviat), and P25 radio systems. Candidate should have a strong understanding of transport network and demonstrate the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, coordinate, and resolve complex issues and projects.

• Or Associate's degree in field mentioned above with 2 years of relevant work experience
• Or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience required.

Experience:

• 2 years of relevant work experience in addition to any experience mentioned above.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Valid Driver's License is Required.

In addition:

• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide 24x7 support.
• Occasional travel required.
