Job Description

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Assist or perform basic to intermediate installation, acceptance testing, and documentation of various Telecommunications equipment and systems.
  • Assist or perform troubleshooting, system testing, maintenance, and repair of electronic and optical equipment, infrastructure, and systems.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, drawings, and other data related to all work performed.
  • Inspect and maintain test equipment, tools, automotive equipment, and safety/protective gear in good working order and compliant.
  • Read, understand, and update electronic and electrical prints, diagrams, and asset records related to Telecom equipment and technologies.
  • Operate tools and equipment necessary for job duties.
  • Follow safety rules, operating regulations, NERC CIP, and environmental practices.
  • Respond to emergency callouts as required.
  • Perform all duties as per lower-level job descriptions in the Telecom Field Technician Job Family and other assigned tasks.
  • Complete all required training successfully.
  • Work with transmission and distribution station data networks, SCADA, automation systems, smart grids, and telecom for various utility systems.
  • Support telecom voice and data systems at Generation and Renewables facilities.
  • Manage transport systems like microwave radio, fiber optic, and wireless systems.
  • Handle Land Mobile Radio Systems, including P25 site electronics, mobile radio installation, support, and programming, RF antenna systems.
  • Perform fiber optic splicing, testing, and termination/connection methods.
  • Understand AC/DC electrical power systems, circuits, and components of distribution and transmission stations.
  • Install and maintain telecom wiring and cabling following industry standards.
  • Manage networking systems including routers, switches, and wireless access points.
  • Support infrastructure equipment such as chargers, batteries, UPS, generators, security systems, HVAC, grounding, signal cabling, site access, fencing, shelters, towers, and antennas.
  • Support centers like dispatch, control, data centers, and customer call centers.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

Based on a grade C, with additional skills and experience for B.

Education: Associate degree or equivalent in electrical/electronic technology, military training, or a high school diploma with 2+ years related experience.

Experience: Demonstrated knowledge at a basic level with at least 2 years of technical work in telecommunications.

License/Certifications: Valid state driver’s license required.

  • Exhibit AEP competencies: positive attitude, respect, support for teammates and leaders.
  • Strong electronics/telecommunications aptitude.
  • Willing to travel overnight and daily as needed.
  • Adaptable to changing schedules and priorities.
  • Available for call-outs and overtime to support 24/7 operations.
  • Proficient in computer skills and telecom documentation.

WHAT YOU'LL GET:

GRADE C: $40.81 - $42.90

GRADE B: $46.66

Compensation Data:

Grade: N004-989

Range: $40.81 - $42.90 USD

The physical demand level is medium, requiring exertion of 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
