Job summary

SMS is seeking a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) to design, integrate, and implement telecom and data infrastructure, ensuring compliance with industry standards and meeting client needs. The role covers inside plant cabling, coordination, and installation oversight at various bases.

The ideal candidate has 7–10 years in structured cabling, RCDD, and a Bachelor's preferred, with DoD guidelines knowledge, AutoCAD proficiency, and strong project management.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years in structured cabling design/implementation.
• RCDD certification required.
• Minimum 6 years developing layout and design for technology systems including voice, data, and structured cabling.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and CAD/BIM tools.
• Knowledge of NEC, IEEE, EIA, TIA, and other industry standards and codes related to the design and installation of low voltage and telecommunications systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, coordinate, design, and installation oversight inside plant cable infrastructure to include conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber and all associated cabling elements at various National Guard Bases.
• Must follow DoD and commercial best practice procedures, standards and/or codes.
• Develop maintenance plans for corrections and ensure the DoD industry standards are upheld.
• Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and Engineering Installation Plans (EIPs)
• Provide technical expertise, answer queries, and collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Develop proposals, cost estimates, and manage timelines and budgets

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, SharePoint, and MS Visio
• Must be well versed in BICSI guidelines and standards.
• Knowledge of NEC, IEEE, EIA, TIA, and other industry standards and codes related to the design and installation of low voltage and telecommunications systems, and their spaces and pathways.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and other CAD/BIM tools Knowledge of ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and relevant building codes
• Strong project management and communication skills
• Strong knowledge of Structured Cabling Systems including survey, design, installation, and testing/commissioning.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff personnel of various expertise levels.
• Problem analysis and creative problem solving
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to thrive in a dynamic fast-paced work environment
• DoD Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain an interim clearance
• Ability to travel to job sites when needed (approx. 25%)

Salary Range

$130,000 - $140,000
