Job description

About the job

Company Description Wireless Technology Labs (WTL) is a Belgian telecom innovator with over 25 years of experience delivering carrier-grade mobile core network infrastructure for MVNOs and MVNEs in more than 70 countries. WTL specializes in Vivada MVNO solutions, providing containerized core networks from 2G to 5G that power voice, data, and mobility services for both MVNOs and MNOs. The company’s proprietary lightweight container technology enables minimal hardware footprint, rapid scaling, and 99.999% uptime while lowering total cost of ownership. WTL integrates advanced PGW with DPI for threat detection and offers high‑capacity SBCs, SS7 gateways, and LTE radio solutions for rural and urban network extension. Its solutions are compliant with globally recognized 3GPP and GSMA standards and trusted by leading operators that route 150 billion minutes annually across 1,600+ interconnects.

Role Description

We are looking for a telecom engineer who can write production Python, not a software engineer who has read some 3GPP specifications. This is important. We need genuine, hands‑on protocol experience:

  • Diameter (RFC 6733, 3GPP TS 29.272 / 29.273) — you can read a CCR/CCA exchange and explain a result code without looking it up
  • GTPv2 (3GPP TS 29.274) — you understand bearer establishment, PDN connection procedures, and the difference between GTP‑C and GTP‑U
  • NAS (3GPP TS 24.301) — UE attach, tracking area update, bearer activation at the NAS layer
  • S1AP (3GPP TS 36.413) — S1 setup, initial context setup, handover procedures

Also required:

  • Production Python (3.x), comfortable with async/concurrent code
  • Experience with time‑series data at scale (we use PostgreSQL + TimescaleDB)
  • Comfortable working close to constrained hardware. Our edge models run in under 150MB with a 2-second inference budget on 2 vCPU

Nice to have, not required:

  • 5G NAS (3GPP TS 24.501) or X2AP/Xn-AP handover correlation
  • Experience with ONNX Runtime or deploying ML models to constrained environments
  • Prior exposure to NETCONF/YANG or network automation tooling
  • Candidates should possess troubleshooting and technical support capabilities, with a focus on diagnosing and resolving complex network and service issues in carrier‑grade environments.
  • Candidates should possess proficiency in Python programming for automation, monitoring, testing, and tooling in telecom or networking contexts.
  • Relevant qualifications include a degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Beneficial skills include experience with containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes or similar), IP networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing protocols), and security concepts such as DPI and threat detection.
  • Effective communication, collaborative
