Job summary

Tanadgusix Corporation (TDX) is seeking a Telecom Apprentice Lineman to perform overhead and underground line construction and maintenance under a Lineman/Foreman. The role includes driving trucks, climbing poles, operating equipment, and loading materials. Will travel across Hawaii and other U.S.

locations as required, with emphasis on safety and teamwork. The position requires basic climbing, tool use, and the ability to pass DOT, background, and medical screenings.

Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

The Telecom Apprentice Lineman will perform overhead and underground low-voltage line construction and maintenance involving fiber optic and copper cabling systems, as well as assist with the operation and maintenance of equipment under the direction of a Lineman and/or Line Foreman. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, driving trucks, operating equipment, loading and unloading materials, climbing poles, and working from aerial personnel lift devices.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Performs overhead and underground low-voltage line construction and maintenance, as well as the operation and maintenance of equipment under the direction of the assigned Line Foreman.
• Uses low-voltage line construction equipment including, but not limited to, stringing equipment, backhoes, derrick diggers, material handlers, and trucks.
• Efficiently and safely performs line work on utility poles or from an aerial lift truck.
• Successfully climbs poles and performs assigned work in a productive manner.
• Builds strand, lashes cable and fiber, and performs basic pole transfers.
• Demonstrates familiarity with and understanding of the use of all required tools and materials.
• Maintains responsibility for verifying the condition of all vehicles, equipment, and tools provided for use in the performance of work.
• Maintains organization and cleanliness of assigned trucks, both interior and exterior.
• Stocks trucks with required materials and supplies for daily job assignments.
• Performs vehicle inspections (VIR) and checks oil and fluid levels prior to each shift.
• Loads and unloads materials.
• Maintains a strong commitment to personal safety and the safety of all crew members and individuals on the job site.
• Exercises sound judgment when responding to unusual or hazardous situations.
• Assists with recordkeeping and maintains logs of work assigned and performed, including hours categorized by activity.
• Represents TDX Corporation and BSET, LLC in a professional manner that promotes positive public relations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to pass a background check, drug and alcohol screening, motor vehicle record review, and DOT physical examination

Preferred

• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Lineman school certification
• 1–3 years of structured cabling or telecom construction experience
• Industry certifications (as applicable)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position works primarily in the field and is exposed to all types of weather conditions, including temperature extremes and rainy environments. Outdoor settings involve all types of property and site conditions, including open spaces, timberlands, urban developments, flat and hilly terrain, construction sites, and roadway rights-of-way. Subject to outside weather and driving conditions.

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position (this list is not fully inclusive of the physical demands required of a Telecom Apprentice Lineman):

• Works around low-voltage wiring using insulated rubber gloves when appropriate.
• Works in confined spaces, such as underground vaults requiring entry through a manhole.
• Works in ditches up to 60 inches deep and 24 inches wide when laying underground wire.
• Frequently lifts, transports, and/or moves up to approximately 75 lbs. daily in the performance of regular duties and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Changes positions frequently and works in awkward positions. Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and descending a stepladder may also be required.
• Required to stand for extended periods of time, sit while driving and/or attending meetings, and walk on uneven ground in all types of terrain.
• Climbs in and out of buckets of aerial personnel lifts with tool belt, materials, and equipment.
• Required to push, pull, twist, reach, and use finger dexterity to grip and handle tools, equipment controls, etc.
• Work entails regular entering and exiting of vehicles in all driving conditions.
• Drives on behalf of BSET, LLC and/or reports for work in all types of weather.
• Exposed to solvents and citrus-based cleaners when terminating and/or splicing underground cables. This work is often performed in ditches, on poles, or in vaults.
• Exposed to noise from traffic, construction equipment, jackhammers, hydraulic saws and tampers, chippers, etc., for up to four hours per day.
• Exposed to various types of pollen depending upon location, season, or climatic conditions. May also be exposed to bee or wasp stings, or animal bites.
• Exposed to chemicals used to treat poles primarily through skin contact or inhalation of wood dust after drilling. Exposure may include creosote and/or pentachlorophenol.
• Requires alertness and concentration at all times, including day/night, inclement weather, and storm situations involving long hours of work.
• Requires far and near visual acuity, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and night vision.
• Hearing and speech requirements such that the employee can hear and be heard when working on top of a 45-foot pole or up to 100 feet away from a co-worker, despite heavy background noise.

COMPENSATION

Pay range is $18.00 – $33.00 per hour, based on experience, plus benefits and eligibility for overtime.
