Job Summary:

The Tele ICU RN is a system-wide role supporting coordination and delivery of high quality, patient-centered care by determining the predictable health status and health needs of patients through interpretation of health data and preventive practice in a virtual setting. The Tele-ICU RN supports care for ICU patients across all Virtua Hospitals, utilizing remote technology to support bedside primary nurses and other staff in providing individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models. The work location may require working in a command center outside of a hospital and/or remotely.

Position Responsibilities:
  1. Examine patient chart information regularly to assess patient condition, reporting changes to the care team.
  2. Use virtual conference tools to assess emotional responses and incorporate family/caregivers into care plans.
  3. Provide education to patients/families/caregivers via virtual conferencing, explaining medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, and follow-up measures, translating complex terminology for understanding.
  4. Assess patient environments for safety risks via virtual camera applications.
  5. Manage evidence-based practices and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  6. Complete virtual rounds on ICU patients and collaborate with ICU staff and virtual intensivists.
  7. Identify signs of clinical deterioration and consult with the care team for interventions.
  8. Recognize and respond to crises virtually, notifying appropriate personnel.
  9. Report errors and unusual occurrences, analyzing precipitating factors.
  10. Mentor and support clinical nurses as needed.
  11. Participate in remote patient rounding and coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams.
  12. Use clinical judgment to recommend care programs during and after patient stays.
  13. Maintain clinical competencies and promote professional nursing practice.
  14. Participate actively in the healthcare team, promoting team pride and positive interactions.
  15. Maintain competencies in remote technologies and adhere to professional appearance and behaviors.
Position Qualifications Required:

Experience: Minimum of 3 years in critical care nursing; 5 years preferred. Excellent communication, assessment, and clinical judgment skills. CCRN preferred.

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.

Licensure and Certifications: Valid NJ RN license, CPR (BLS), ACLS. Relevant certifications preferred.
