Job summary

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County is seeking a Teen Coordinator at LP Brown Branch in Olympia to develop engaging programming for teens and to create a welcoming, inclusive environment.

The position is part-time with 13 hours per week (Mon–Fri) and may include extra hours during school breaks or summer. Teamwork, strong communication, and youth development focus are essential to success.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Experience working with youth, parents/guardians, and/or community partners.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to de-escalate problems and solve day-to-day issues.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications (provided upon hire).
  • Must pass local and national background checks and pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, marketing, and delivery of educational and recreational programming for Club members.
  • Plan and implement programs and activities under Academic Success and Healthy Lifestyles for middle/high school members.
  • Deliver age-appropriate programs for youth in grades 6-12; occasional coverage for elementary programs.
  • Actively supervise areas to promote a safe and positive environment.
  • Maintain a positive Boys & Girls Club culture with high energy, teamwork, and collaboration with staff.
  • Promote daily program participation.
  • Maintain productive relationships with parents, staff, and visitors to Club.
  • Model positive behaviors for children and staff.
  • Attend branch staff meetings and mandatory monthly all-staff trainings.
  • Assume other tasks, assignments, and responsibilities as needed.

Job Shift: Afternoon

JOB SUMMARY

Weekly schedule offers 13 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Additional hours may be available during school breaks, early release days and summer season. Schedule to be finalized upon hire.

The Teen Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing engaging and empowering programs tailored to the unique needs of teenagers in the community. This role involves creating a positive and inclusive environment, recruiting participants through outreach efforts, providing mentorship and support, and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure the success of diverse programs. With a commitment to youth development principles and strong interpersonal skills, the Teen Coordinator plays a pivotal role in fostering personal growth and positive experiences for teens within the local community.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee the planning, marketing, and delivery of educational and recreational programming for Club members.
  • Plan and implement programs and activities that fall under the Academic Success and Healthy Lifestyles outcome areas for Boys & Girls Club programs, which include but are not limited to, homework help, art projects, and field trips for middle/high school members.
  • Deliver age-appropriate programs and activities for youth in grades 6-12. Coverage for elementary programs and activities may occur on occasion.
  • Actively supervise areas to promote a safe and positive environment.
  • Maintain a positive Boys & Girls Club culture with high energy, strong teamwork, and effective collaboration with other staff.
  • Promote daily program participation.
  • Maintain productive relationships with parents, staff, and other visitors to Club.
  • Model positive behaviors for children and staff.
  • Attend branch staff meetings and mandatory monthly all-staff trainings.
  • Assume other tasks, assignments, and responsibilities as needed or directed.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth, parents/guardians and/or community partners.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to de-escalate problems when present, and problem-solve during day-to-day activities.
  • Ability to work in a busy, high-energy, kid-centric environment.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications (course available upon hire).
  • Must pass local and national background check and pre-employment drug screening (in accordance with RCW 49.44.240).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Combined experience and/or formal training, where:
    • Formal training and/or experience teaching youth while creating engaging learning experiences.
    • Experience working with youth and knowledge of youth development.
    • Boys & Girls Club experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Spanish and English, allowing for effective communication with Spanish-speaking clients, partners, and team members.
