Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is hiring a Teen Advisor for the Northeast Bronx YMCA. The role supports teen programs, coordinates Teen Center activities, and drives engagement among youth and families in a fast-paced community setting.

Under the Teen Coordinator, you will plan lessons, supervise activities, maintain documentation, and ensure safety. A high school diploma and at least 1 year with teens are required; Mandated Reporter Training within 30 days is needed.

Qualifications

• Must have High School Diploma or equivalent; College credits preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience working with pre-teens/teens (ages 13+).
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; knowledge of Access, Adobe PageMaker, Photoshop preferred.
• Must complete Mandated Reporter Training within 30 days of hire.
• Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and ability to work with diverse youth and adults.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health, safety, and well-being of participants with close supervision; keep spaces clean and stocked.
• Plan, create, and facilitate lesson plans for all programs.
• Manage administrative data entry in systems (e.g., Youth Service.NET); coordinate participant paperwork and surveys; meet City and YMCA Teen Standards.
• Manage adolescent behavior with respect, maturity, and encouragement.
• Develop positive relationships with participants and their families.
• Lead programming with a focus on Social Emotional Learning and skill development.
• Work cooperatively with professional staff and other departments.
• Create an environment that is diverse, culturally sensitive, and relevant to teens' needs.
• Participate in meetings, trainings, and special events.
• Adhere to Department of Health, YMCA standards, and funder regulations.

The Northeast Bronx YMCA is seeking Teen Advisors. Under the supervision of the Teen Coordinator, the Teen Advisor will play a critical role in the successful operation of the teen programs. The Teen Advisor will lead and supervise all teen services and programs, including Teen Center, Rowe Scholars, Leaders Club, and Saturday Night Lights. In addition, the Teen Advisor will be responsible for advertising and recruiting participants, ensuring proper documentation and reporting, and meeting program outcome goals and deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants in the program by providing close supervision of all activities and ensuring spaces are clean and supplies are well-maintained.
• Plan, create, and facilitate lesson plans for all programs.
• Manage administrative data entry in various systems, including Youth Service.NET, coordinate participant paperwork, conduct program surveys, and meet all other requirements outlined by City agencies and the YMCA’s Teen Standards.
• Must be able to manage adolescent behavior with respect, maturity, compassion, and encouragement.
• Develop positive relationships with the participants, their friends, and family members.
• Lead programming with a focus on Social Emotional Learning and skill development.
• Ability to work cooperatively with professional staff and other departments.
• Create an environment that is diverse, culturally sensitive, and relevant to the needs of teens.
• Actively participate in designated meetings, training sessions, and special events.
• Adhere to all Department of Health, YMCA of Greater New York, and funder standards, expectations, and regulations.

Desired Skills & Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. College credits preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with pre-teens and teens (ages 13 and older).
• General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Access, Adobe PageMaker, and Photoshop preferred.
• Must complete the Mandated Reporter Training within thirty (30) days of hire.
• Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and comfortable working with diverse youth and adults.
