Tampa Electric Company is seeking a Spring 2027 Internship - Drone & Diagnostics Center, Data Science. The TECO Energy Cooperative Education Program offers college students professional growth and hands-on experience in a professional environment related to their field of study.

Interns will work 20-40 hours per week in a normal office setting in Florida, supporting ML model development, dashboards, drone imagery labeling, and AI integration into processes for internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited university for a degree related to the field (co-op preferred).
• Data Science or Data Analytics focus required.

Responsibilities

• Support the Drone & Diagnostics Center's Data Science team in developing machine learning models for asset inspections.
• Assist in developing dashboards, visualizations, and analytical tools for stakeholders.

Storm Duty Requirements

Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

The TECO Energy Cooperative Education Program offers college degree‑seeking students the opportunity for professional growth while meeting the business needs of the company. The program is an extension of the educational process, providing practical experience to complement formal classroom work. The intern program recruits students from colleges to give them an opportunity to work in a professional environment related to their field of study. Work assignments are consistent with the work needs of the department and the company and provide meaningful and challenging work to the student. These engineering intern positions will report to Energy Delivery engineers and support a variety of technical projects ranging in complexity, scope and time spans.

The TECO Energy Cooperative Education Program supports students working as interns or co‑ops.

Accountabilities:

As a successful candidate for our POSITION, you would:

• Support the Drone & Diagnostics Center's Data Science team in developing and improving machine learning models for utility asset inspections.
• Assist in developing dashboards, data visualizations, and analytical tools that communicate insights to business stakeholders.
• Assist with the labeling and organization of drone imagery and other data sets that can used for model training.
• Help the Drone & Diagnostic Center review and implement AI into existing processes, help automate data processing, and create predictive analytics for internal stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

The successful applicant should be enrolled in an accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post‑secondary educational program in a related discipline.

Year in School: N/A; (Preferred) Sophomore or higher

Co-Op Requirements:

To qualifyas a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co‑op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.

A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
