Job summary

TECO Energy, through its Tampa Electric internship program, offers hands-on cybersecurity experience for college students. The selected candidate will assist with security documentation, risk tracking, vulnerability reviews, and coordination with partners in a large-scale technology environment.

• Develop and maintain procedures, inventories, diagrams, meeting notes and other cybersecurity artifacts.
• Support security communications and collaborate with ADI, Technology, vendor and business teams.

Storm Duty Requirements

Tampa Electric and its sister companies serve a role in providing critical services to our community during an emergency. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our Tampa Electric customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.

POSITION SUMMARY / DETAILS

This internship provides hands-on experience supporting cybersecurity activities for the ADI program. The selected student will assist with security documentation, risk and control tracking, vulnerability and access-review support, and coordination with technical and business partners. The role offers exposure to cybersecurity practices within a large-scale technology implementation and operational environment.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Security Controls Support: Assist with documenting and tracking cybersecurity requirements, controls, risk items, findings, and remediation actions.
• Access and Identity Review: Support reviews of user access, roles, permissions, and related evidence in accordance with established processes.
• Vulnerability and Issue Tracking: Help organize security findings, test results, exceptions, and follow-up actions; elevate concerns to the appropriate team member.
• Security Documentation: Develop and maintain procedures, inventories, diagrams, meeting notes, and other cybersecurity project artifacts.
• Awareness and Collaboration: Support security communications and work with ADI, Technology, vendor, and business teams to promote secure practices.

PHYSICAL LOCATION OF INTERNSHIP

609 Lake Kathy Drive, Brandon, FL 33510 (primary reporting location; work assignments may include meetings or activities at other company locations, as business needs require).

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / GPA

The successful applicant should be enrolled in an accredited university or college undergraduate or graduate-level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.

• Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
• To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university's co-op program is required.

Target / Related Degrees: Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering

Preferred Year in School: Junior, Senior, or Graduate student

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Cybersecurity Fundamentals: Basic knowledge of security principles, threats, vulnerabilities, risk, controls, and secure system practices.
• Technical Understanding: Familiarity with networks, operating systems, cloud concepts, identity and access management, or security tools.
• Analytical Thinking: Ability to assess information, identify inconsistencies, and document potential concerns objectively.
• Confidentiality and Integrity: Ability to handle sensitive info responsibly and follow security and privacy requirements.
• Communication and Detail: Strong written communication, organization, documentation, and follow-through skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed primarily in a normal office environment at Lake Kathy. The intern may participate in meetings, demonstrations, testing, or project activities in operational or technical settings and must follow all applicable safety, security, and site-access requirements.
