Job summary

The University of Tennessee System seeks an Assistant/Associate Technology Manager to support evaluation, protection, marketing, and commercialization of early-stage UT technologies in Memphis. The role requires USA citizenship or residency with a green card.

You will work with UT faculty, staff, and students across UT campuses to assess commercial potential, develop marketing materials, and advise on patent and licensing strategies while engaging with external industry partners and startup

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Biological or Chemical science or Bio-mechanical or Chemical Engineering discipline with 5+ years of experience; or a Master's degree or higher.
  • Ability to work with the team while managing multiple projects.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar research and technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with UT faculty, students and staff across UT campuses and UT offices to support IP and commercialization.
  • Evaluate commercial potential of inventions and determine markets and competitive advantages.
  • Lead patent prosecution communications with inventors, licensees and patent counsel.
  • Negotiate and draft licenses, CDAs, MTAs and inter-institutional agreements with UT partners.
  • Educate UT researchers on IP policies and best practices related to commercialization.
  • Support startups based on UT IP and assist with startup formation and outreach.
