The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University seeks two Technology Licensing Associates in State College, PA. Reporting to an Assistant Director of Technology Licensing, these positions require US citizenship and focus on managing portfolios within life sciences, physical sciences or engineering.

Responsibilities include patent strategy, liaising with inventors and attorneys, supporting IP marketing and license negotiations, and helping advance OTT’s goals.

POSITION SPECIFICS

The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) within the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research at the Pennsylvania State University is seeking to fill two (2) vacancies for the role of Technology Licensing Associate. These positions will be located in State College, PA, and each of them will report to an Assistant Director of Technology Licensing. Candidates must be US Citizens to apply.

The primary responsibilities of this position include the following but are not limited to the following:

• Portfolio Management either within the Agricultural Sciences, Life Sciences or Physical Sciences/Engineering field which includes providing clarity and outreach to new inventors and triage of new disclosures
• Implementing Patent Strategy to include timeliness of filing and managing the initiation of the patent application process from filing a provisional patent application through the expiration or abandonment of an issued patent.
• Liaison with innovators, patent attorneys, and licensees on patent strategy matters
• Assist or implement marketing intellectual property (IP) to identify opportunities for commercial research and development partnerships and/or licensing.
• Assist throughout the negotiation and execution process of our license agreements
• Assist in or identify opportunities to increase OTT’s success in reaching our goals
• Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

This job will be filled at the Technology Licensing Officer - Intermediate Professional level. The minimum requirements are a Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferably in a technical field such as Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, or Engineering) and 1+ years of relevant experience. The successful candidate(s) will have excellent time management skills, and abilities to conduct multiple projects and easily prioritize in a dynamic environment, excellent judgment and soft skills to interface with esteemed faculty members, senior business contacts, and investors, and a high level of dexterity to understand a diverse range of technologies arising from the University’s $1.3 billion annual research base. A high interest and open mind to learn legal skills, to manage a portfolio, and to educate, guide, and make recommendations to the respective inventor(s) in achieving milestones is required.

SALARY & BENEFITS
