Job summary

Planet Group is seeking a hands-on Software Engineering Manager to lead a small team of engineers while remaining actively involved in solution design and development. The role focuses on Java/React with AWS, cloud-native architectures, and AI-enabled tooling.

This is a fully remote, permanent W2 position with a client in the Eastern Time zone. You will mentor engineers, drive API delivery, and modernize legacy systems leveraging cloud-native patterns and AI capabilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on full stack development with Java and JavaScript/TypeScript
• 2+ years technical leadership or management experience while remaining hands-on
• Experience building and integrating APIs, AWS and cloud-native development
• Experience modernizing legacy systems and migrating platforms to cloud
• Experience leading Product Operating Model (POM) discovery with stakeholders
• Strong CI/CD understanding and modern engineering practices
• Experience with MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management; experience integrating AI technologies/tools

Software Engineering Manager (Java/React/AWS)

Must be hands‑on coding daily with Java & React (JavaScript/TypeScript)

Location: 100%Remote - Client based in EST

Salary: $135,000 - $160,000 + 15% Bonus

Employment Type: Full-Time / Permanent W2 position (Multiple openings)

Work Authorization: Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship. This is a permanent direct hire position (W2) with our client.

We are seeking a hands‑on (Java/React) Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of talented engineers while remaining actively involved in solution design and development. This role is ideal for a technical leader with strong full-stack Java/Reactexpertise, cloud experience, and a passion for emerging AI technologies.

What You'll Do

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 3-5 software engineers (Multiple positions available)
• Drive delivery of scalable, cloud-native applications and APIs / daily coding
• LeadProduct Operating Model (POM) discovery, partnering with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver innovative solutions
• Modernize legacy applications using AWS and modern architecture patterns
• Utilize AI and automation tools to improve engineering productivity
• Guide Agile delivery, technical roadmaps, and software quality initiatives

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of hands-on Full Stack Development with Java and JavaScript/TypeScript. 5+ yearsJava development experience. Strong experience with Spring Boot. Strong experience with React (JavaScript / TypeScript) - Must be hands‑on coding on a daily basis in current / most recent positions
• 2+ years in Technical Leadership or Management experience (while remaining a hands‑on developer) - Will lead and grow a team of 3-5 team members
• Experience building and integrating APIs.AWS and cloud-native development experience. Must have experience modernizing legacy systems,migrating platformsto cloud
• Experience leading POM Discovery, gathering requirements with stakeholders, defining product features and priorities
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, software architecture, and modern engineering practices
• Experience with MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Professional experience integrating AI technologies / toolkits

Preferred Experience

• Generative AI technologies, LLMs, AI Agents, RAG, or vector databases
• OpenAI, LangChain, Hugging Face, or Amazon Bedrock
