Job summary

Young World Physical Education is seeking a Technology Lab Specialist for Fowler Elementary School District. This role involves maintaining and managing the computer lab, supervising students in technology classes, and preparing instructional materials.

Qualifications

Job Title: TECHNOLOGY LAB SPECIALIST

Classification: Support Personnel Pay Scale

Range: II

Description: The Technology Lab Specialist is responsible for maintaining and managing the school's computer lab. The Specialist works with site administration and the site leadership team. Responsibilities include supervising students and other duties such as playground, lunchroom, arrival, dismissal, and crossing guard duties. Exposure to heat, sun, varying temperatures, and outdoor conditions is a routine part of the work assignment.

Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Sixty (60) college credit hours and/or an Associate Arts Degree or higher is preferred
  • In lieu of an AA degree, provide evidence of a passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Possession of an Arizona Substitute certificate or willingness and eligibility to obtain one
  • Proficient with the use of technology, Chromebooks, tablets, desktops, and standard office and educational software, including Google Workspace, Word, Excel
  • Willing to learn and open to exploring alternate educational resources at the request of administration
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment (telephones, copiers, printers)
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn and master site‑specific software used to support students during instruction, and to develop knowledge of technology as it relates to education
  • Proficient in the English language (reading, writing, and oral communication)
  • Knowledge of Spanish preferred
  • Ability to comprehend and follow directions from written and verbal instructions
  • Knowledge of arithmetic and basic mathematical procedures
  • Ability to prioritize work, adhere to time restraints, and attend to multiple tasks on a variety of issues
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to perform duties requiring physical demands, such as reaching, bending, kneeling
  • Able to stand for extended periods throughout the majority of the work day, including outside duties
  • Prior experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred
  • Ability and willingness to perform student supervision duties, including outside and lunchroom duties
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee student instruction and independent work in computer classes
  • Ability and willingness to work with a variety of age levels (Pre‑K to eighth grade) in the technology setting
  • Set up computers and software for incoming classes, maintaining a clean and professional learning environment
  • Contribute to the overall positive climate of the school through all actions and interactions
  • Report any concerns about student safety to the administration
  • Preparation of instructional materials as needed
  • Assist with beginning of the year and end of year procedures, including inventory, distribution of materials
  • Cover for other adults in the event of staffing shortage as directed
  • Distribute, collect, and manage documentation as appropriate
  • Provide whole‑group direction, assist children individually and in small groups to help reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
  • Work with teachers and staff to develop strategies for effective use of the computer lab or classroom computer instruction as appropriate
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials
  • Reinforce safe and age‑appropriate computer use and closely monitor students during instructional time
  • Provide appropriate guidance on computer safety, supervise internet use to ensure students are only accessing approved and educationally relevant sites
  • Use positive strategies to maintain student engagement
  • Set clear expectations and enforce school, classroom, and computer lab rules
  • Maintain a pleasant and inviting computer lab space with positive messaging and instructional references posted as appropriate
  • Assist with the administration of student assessments as requested
  • Assist with the installation of hardware and software as requested
  • Establish a preventative maintenance schedule for the school’s computer lab
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve minor computer problems
  • Report computer and/or printer problems to the site principal, or complete Technology Work Orders promptly
  • Participate and assist with student activities as directed, to include special events, evening events (as is possible), assemblies, and student incentives
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, grade‑level meetings, and any other group function as directed by site administration
  • Function as a classroom substitute when directed
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with administration, students, and all school personnel
  • Participate in district‑sponsored professional development workshops/in‑services, attend ongoing training classes as directed
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when working with all district personnel and student and family records and/or information
  • Support and enforce school rules, regulations, and policies set by the School Board, the assigned school, and the District
  • Refer concerns regarding student safety to the classroom teacher and or site administration
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Governing School Board, the Principal, or designee

Length of Employment: Nine (9) months (school calendar will determine the days worked during the school year)

Evaluation: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Governing Board Policy GDO
