Job summary

CNA Financial offers a Tech Summer Internship in Chicago, a 10–12 week program designed to give hands-on experience across Application Development and DevOps within an Agile SAFe framework.

Interns will pair with experienced CNA developers, learn TDD practices, and gain exposure to public cloud platforms while exploring the insurance tech landscape and CNA’s business impact.

Qualifications

• Must be a sophomore, junior or senior (undergraduate) or in first year of Masters program pursuing CS/CS Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3.00 GPA (overall and major) required.
• Courses in Object-oriented languages, Java preferred; Data Structures; Web Development; SQL fundamentals.
• Knowledge of Information Security and Application Security; Systems and Network Architecture.

Responsibilities

• Tackle challenging assignments applying technical education to technology projects.
• Work with CNA developers to learn SAFe methodologies.
• Apply software engineering best practices such as Test Driven Development (TDD).
• Use Public Cloud platforms to create business applications and services.
• Engage in education about technology and the insurance industry; receive mentoring.
• Meet with senior leadership and receive ongoing feedback and coaching.
• Possibility of full-time placement after graduation.

CNA's Tech Summer Internship Program is looking to create a team of interns for a dynamic and fast pace 10-12 week training program that provides hands on experience and unique opportunities across a variety of technologies. Interns will have experiences in areas such as Application Development and Dev Ops while working with Agile methodologies and tools.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

• Must be a sophomore, junior or senior (undergraduate) or in first year of Masters program pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
• A minimum 3.00 GPA is required (overall and major)
• Computer Science courses in: Object-oriented language(s), Java preferred
• Data Structures
• Web Development
• SQL and Database Fundamentals
• Knowledge of Information Security and Application Security
• Knowledge of Systems and Network Architecture
• Interest in the Insurance Industry
• Some previous work experience preferred
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, and the ability to cultivate and maintain positive business relationships
• Strong organizational skills

• Effective problem solving, analytical aptitude, learn quickly and embrace change

Program Location

CNA's corporate headquarters is located in the heart of downtown Chicago at 151 N Franklin St, near all public transportation from the city and suburbs. The program will employ a hybrid working model, alternating between working in the office and from home.

I n certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia , California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois , Maryland , Massachusetts , New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $35,000 to $65,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
