Job summary

Northern Trust in Chicago, IL offers a ten-week technology internship for cybersecurity-focused students. You will work with engineering and security teams on real projects to build practical skills in threat management, IAM, data protection, and governance, risk, and compliance.

Interns participate in professional development workshops, Lunch & Learns, and cross-functional projects, with mentorship and networking opportunities across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• Pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degree in Cybersecurity or related major with expected graduation between December 2027 and Summer 2028.
• Experience learning programming languages and technology tools (Java, Python, SQL, Azure, ServiceNow).
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher; strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

WHO YOU ARE

• You are pursuing a bachelor's degree or master's degree in Cybersecurity or related major at an accredited college/university with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and Summer 202 8
• Experience learning programming languages and technology tools (examples include Java, Python, SQL, Azure, and ServiceNow)
• You have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
• You have good verbal and written communication skills
• You are curious about financial markets and interested in learning more about the financial services industry
• You have proven analytical, data interpretation, problem-solving, critical and strategic thinking skills through coursework and/or previous internship experience
• You have demonstrated leadership and teamwork through projects and extracurricular

As an intern at Northern Trust, you will have the opportunity to build relevant skills, work on meaningful projects, and participate in a collaborative program designed to support your early career development. You will work directly with your team on day-to-day tasks while joining internship program events to develop new skills, network with senior leaders, and connect with fellow interns in the program. WHAT YOU'LL GAIN

Gain hands-on experience protecting enterprise systems and data while working alongside information security professionals, developing expertise in areas such as threat management, identity and access management, data protection, technology risk, and governance, risk, and compliance

Contribute to real-world cybersecurity initiatives including security automation, compliance analysis, intrusion detection, infrastructure security, and risk assessment, while building the technical, analytical, and operational skills needed to support secure business solutions and safeguard a global technology environment

Every internship in technology regardless of discipline is likely to involve:

• Some automation via coding, whether simple OS shell scripting, low code automations or other form
• The use or development of some generative AI capabilities

Salary Range

Salary is $35.00 USD per hour

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay.
