Job summary

Wellmark, Inc. is offering a two-year associate program in its Technology division with four 6-month rotations across API/Services Engineering, Analytics, UX, Cloud, Data Engineering, AI, Front End, Cyber Security and more. Start date: Monday, June 7th, 2027, four spots available.

At program end, a role within Technology aligned to needs and your goals will be offered. Rotations are personalized based on your skills and goals, with leadership guidance and cross-functional collaboration with UX,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field (e.g. CS, MIS).
  • Graduating in 2026 or May 2027 expected; other dates considered.
  • Internship or leadership/mentorship experience encouraged.
  • Proactive learner with ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong planning, organizational and communication skills; team player.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a two-year rotation program across multiple technology areas.
  • Deliverables as directed by program leaders; own skill development and impact.

  • Contribute to projects and participate in cross-functional teams.

About the Program:

The associate program is a two-year rotation program through Wellmark’s technology division, which is responsible for technology and member experience. Wellmark believes in developing top talent with skills in multiple core areas. The associate program will give you access and hands on work in multiple areas of our technology organization. Throughout each or your rotations, you will be responsible for executing deliverables as directed by Wellmark leadership. You will take ownership in the development of critical skills and make a measurable impact by completing daily work, leading, and contributing to projects within Wellmark. You will interface and collaborate with a variety of areas in our division, including but not limited to user experience design, application delivery, application operations, data management, quality engineering, cloud services, and information security.

Program Details:
  • Start Date of Monday, June 7th, 2027
  • Multiple Program Spots Available (4)
  • 2-year program made up of four, 6-month rotations to enable you to deliver value to Wellmark while gaining relevant career experiences within a technology division.
  • At the end of the 2-year program, you will have a role within the Technology division that balances your career preferences and the needs of the Wellmark Technology division at that time.
  • Rotations will be based on discussions with your rotation leaders and program sponsor. They will be individualized based on your skill set, career goals, and needs for Wellmark Technology. Rotation options may include:
    • API / Services Engineering
    • Application Production Support
    • Analytics
    • User Experience Design (UX)
    • Cloud Support & Engineering
    • Data Engineering
    • Artificial Intelligence
    • Front End Engineering
    • Cyber Security / Information Security
    • Full Stack Development
    • Quality Engineering & Testing
    • Product Development (Product Owner / Scrum Master)

*All rotation options are subject to business need and skill set fit

  • Educational assistance: Wellmark’s educational assistance includes two benefits:
    • Tuition Plus benefit: If you’re currently working on a degree, or plan to in the future, you may be eligible upon employment to receive up to $15,000 annually for transferable credit classes, books and fees completed at an accredited learning institution.
    • Student Loan Repayment benefit: You may also be eligible after your first six months to receive monthly payments, of up to $5,000 per year, to help repay college student loans for an existing, qualifying degree. Loans must be in the employee’s name from a federal or state licensed financial institution or through a student loan program.
    • You may participate in both programs, but the maximum annual benefit is $15,000.

Interview Process Note:
  • Optional: come see us at your local Iowa and South Dakota University fall career fairs to discuss the program.
  • Preliminary phone interviews will occur throughout the month of September and early October.
  • Final Interviews with Wellmark Technology Leaders will occur from October 23rd - October 28th
  • Final decisions and offers will be complete by November 6th, 2026.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical degree program (e.g. Computer Science, MIS, etc.)
  • 2026 graduates or anticipated May 2027 graduates, only (Schools with different graduation dates in this window are qualified as well)
  • Previous Experience:
    • relevant internship experience
    • OR previous leadership/mentorship experience in an academic, professional or volunteer setting
    • OR experience driving solutions to support Wellmark business initiatives (e.g. testing, business analysis, development, cloud service support, etc)
  • Self-Starter who takes a proactive approach to learning and continual development
  • Proven experience managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams
  • Ability to come up with creative solutions to address problems
Preferred:
  • Wellmark Internship experience
  • 3.0 GPA or higher, on a 4.0 scale
Additional Information

a. Application Delivery may work with application delivery/other Wellmark Technology stakeholders in the delivery, maintenance, development and support of software applications for Wellmark business solutions. Will be responsible for developing programming logic to support delivered solutions.

b. Application Operations may assist and work with Technology stakeholders, in the management and technical troubleshooting of multiple applications in support of Wellmark's application systems.

c. Architecture may work with Solution Architects in the development of architectural designs, planning, and developing of technical solutions. Support the development of architecture models and technical standards that enable the transition of Wellmark's systems from current state to future requirements. Collaborate with Lead Architect for assigned domain, business systems analyst and other stakeholders to provide insight/ direction regarding process improvements. Will be responsible for developing and delivering structured architectural documents.

d. Cloud Services/Information Security may provide ongoing support and maintenance of enterprise-wide applications and policies. Work under the direction of experienced Engineers/Analysts to maintain and upgrade cloud and security solutions. Evaluate, test and coordinate information security policies, procedures and systems.

e. Business Analysis may collaborate with stakeholders and other members to analyze, model, and document detailed requirements by using a variety of techniques, understanding business processes, alignment, and technology for projects of limited scope, size, and complexity. Will be responsible for delivering technical requirement documentation.

f. Methodology/Governance/Process may assist in the implementation and execution of a methodology plan including training on the adoption of the defined methodologies. Educate stakeholders on standards and governance protocols.

g. Quality Engineering / Testing Management may define test cases and assist in the planning and management of testing systems to ensure quality outcomes are met for projects and maintenance.

h. User Experience / Customer Experience may assist in UX Design including design, advocating UX principles/methodologies, sketching wire-framing and mock creation experience. May assist in research or data analysis with an emphasis on UX/CX experience.

i. Support and adhere to Wellmark software development life-cycle SDLC, operational procedures and development and security standards by following required processes.

j. Other duties as assigned.
