Job Description

The Texas A&M University System Offices, part of one of the largest higher education systems in the nation, seeks applications for a full-time Technologist I-III in Laser Diagnostics and Directed Energy at the Bush Combat Development Complex (BCDC). Located on the RELLIS Campus in Bryan, TX, BCDC fosters innovative research in military and defense technologies, including hypersonics, directed energy, and advanced materials. Position Overview: The Technologist will independently apply advanced scientific or engineering principles in research focused on laser diagnostics and directed energy. The role involves developing laser technologies for hypersonic and directed energy applications, utilizing facilities like the ALLEMO laboratory, which integrates laser and plasma-based technologies for aerodynamic and aero-optic research.

Responsibilities
  • Design and conduct engineering research, selecting and adapting scientific techniques.
  • Operate, maintain, and ensure safety of Class 4 laser systems, including femtosecond lasers, Nd:YAG lasers, fiber lasers, and dye lasers.
  • Design, analyze, build, and test specialized equipment and instrumentation.
  • Apply analytical methods to develop solutions for research problems.
  • Participate in team research activities and ensure data integrity and protocol compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum for Technologist I: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Minimum for Technologist II: Bachelor's degree, plus two years of relevant experience.

Minimum for Technologist III: Bachelor's degree, plus four years of relevant experience.

Additional Requirements

- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Report writing and research project experience.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Willingness to learn Agile principles.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Experience with optical/plasma diagnostics, high-speed aerodynamics, or directed energy technologies.
