Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking a skilled IRL Technologist to perform donor and patient testing and interpret results to ensure donor-recipient compatibility. You will resolve compatibility problems and provide intermediate reference to hospitals and transfusion services, working with a dedicated team in a blood bank environment.

The role requires MT (ASCP) certification, a biology/chemistry degree, and at least 1 year of related experience (or MLT with 4 years of lab work).

Qualifications

  • MT (ASCP) certification required.
  • MLT (ASCP) certification with 4 years of general laboratory experience can be substituted.
  • Good written and verbal communication to interact with internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve compatibility problems and provide reference and consultation to hospitals and transfusion services.
  • Perform automated and manual test procedures on blood samples.
  • Manage receipt, coordination, shipment, and transport of patient and donor blood samples; document issues.
  • Maintain reagent inventory including ordering, receiving, inspection and preparation.
  • Identify testing irregularities and assist other Medical Technologists in problem resolution.
  • Consult with staff at other facilities to resolve complex serologic problems and provide units to transfusion recipients.
  • Perform manufacturing duties for special blood products as applicable.

Lift, pull, push and move objects of up to 50 pounds. May work in walk-in refrigerator/freezers for periods of time.
