About Med Surg 2
Med Surg 2 is a fast-paced medical-surgical inpatient unit specializing in the care of adult patients who are preparing for or recovering from surgical procedures. Our patient population primarily includes orthopedic, urology, OB/GYN, and general surgery patients, while also caring for medical patients with infections, wounds, dementia, mental health crises, and chronic health conditions.
Our mission is to provide safe, high-quality care that supports patients in achieving a smooth recovery and returning to their baseline level of health.
Position Responsibilities
As a PCA, you will:
- Partner with nurses and other healthcare team members to deliver exceptional patient care.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including mobility, bathing, grooming, and toileting.
- Obtain and report vital signs and other patient observations.
- Perform phlebotomy and other approved patient care tasks.
- Support patient safety initiatives and infection prevention practices.
- Document patient care activities accurately and timely.
- Collaborate with RNs, LPNs, Charge Nurses, and Unit Secretaries to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
- Monitor patient responses to interventions and communicate concerns to the healthcare team.
Schedule & Work Expectations
Shift Options
- Day Shift: 6:00 AM - 6:30 PM
- Night Shift: 6:00 AM - 6:30 AM
Employment Status
- Full-Time: Three (3) 12-hour shifts per week
- Part-Time: Two (2) 12-hour shifts per week
Additional Requirements
- Every third weekend rotation
- Holiday rotation
- Self-scheduling, with schedule preferences considered while balancing overall unit staffing needs
- Consistent availability required; reduced hours or PRN scheduling accommodations are not available at this time
Qualifications
- Required
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- CPR is required through quarterly RQI training.
- Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience
- Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
- Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
- Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
- Requires knowledge of principles of infection control.
- Requires basic computer skills.
