Job summary

Kirby Corporation in Westfield, CT is hiring an apprentice technician to learn preventative maintenance and basic mechanical repairs on customer equipment in a shop environment. Starting pay is $27 per hour with quarterly increases during the 15-month program.

Under supervision, you will learn parts, processes, and maintenance techniques, and assist senior technicians with troubleshooting, parts retrieval, and completing work orders. A strong emphasis on safety and organization is required.

Qualifications

Overview

Responsible for learning how to perform preventative maintenance and routine mechanical repairs in a shop environment on customer's equipment including transmissions, transmission components, and subassemblies, as instructed by senior level Transmission Service Shop Technicians and Group Leaders.

This position starts at $27 per hour, with increases each quarter. Upon successful completion of the 15-month apprentice program, the employee would graduate to Shop Technician I.

Responsibilities

• Learn basic parts, processes, and maintenance techniques as instructed by more senior level Shop Technicians.
• Work with more senior level Shop Technicians to understand how to accurately troubleshoot and diagnose routine problems with customer’s equipment.
• Retrieve parts and other supplies for more senior level Shop Technicians.
• Learn how to complete all work orders and time sheets in a legible, accurate, and timely manner.
• Provide assistance to more senior level Shop Technicians on larger jobs.
• Support day-to-day shop operations (e.g., clean parts and bays, and properly dispose of/empty fluids as directed).
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Education/Experience:

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) and/or no prior experience necessary. Recent Graduates of Diesel Tech schools preferred.
