Job purpose
A technician trainee will possess a basic technical aptitude related to natural gas engines and compressors. A trainee is expected to be constantly learning, observing, and applying gained experience to their assigned duties. A capacity for critical thinking related to technical troubleshooting and the ability to clearly document technical job details is required, as well as excellent attendance and a positive attitude.
Duties and responsibilities
- Successfully pass all assigned technical training, including online, classroom, and on-the-job sessions.
- Correctly perform all assigned shop tasks.
- Assist senior technicians with repairs.
- Accurately complete service reports and other required paperwork in a legible and understandable manner. Good technical writing and computer skills are mandatory.
- Efficiently utilize, read, and comprehend manuals related to the equipment being repaired.
- Ensure all tasks are completed in the safest and most proficient manner.
- Promote good welfare and a positive attitude among the company and its divisions.
- Maintain an exemplary attendance record during training and on the job.
- Perform other duties as assigned that are related to the development of a technician trainee into higher-class technicians (Class B, Class A, Journeymen, and Master Journeymen).
Qualifications
- Must have or be working toward a High School Diploma or GED. Preferably, have applied certification from an accredited trade school or equivalent military experience. If working toward a High School Diploma or GED, the trainee must complete it to maintain employment with Waukesha Pearce Industries.
- Mechanical and technical background.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must have a working knowledge of the position and its relation to overall business objectives.
- Must meet goals and objectives set by the company.
- Must conform to company policies and procedures.
- Must have a current driver's license and an acceptable driving record per WPI insurance standards if driving a company vehicle.
- Must pass and maintain drug and alcohol testing requirements of the Department of Transportation.
- Must maintain an exemplary attendance record.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend and twist several times a day.
- Computer literate in a Windows environment (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
- Ability to operate test equipment, think critically, and learn advanced mechanical concepts.
- Dependable and able to work independently.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Promote and maintain a clean, neat, and safe work environment.
- Maintain good client relations and a positive disposition.
- Protect company assets and interests.
- Furnish necessary hand tools, pneumatic accessories, and a toolbox for daily activities.
Working Conditions
- Typical hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Weekend hours as necessary.
- Outdoor work as required.
