Job summary

TrulyHired is seeking a Routing Technician to operate and maintain the Transportation Information Management System (TIMS). The role involves accurate data entry for bus routes, stop locations, and student information on a statewide routing platform.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED with college computer coursework and at least 2 years of technical computer/data entry experience. Travel is not indicated, and CMS facilities will be the primary work site.

Qualifications

  • 2 years technical computer system and data entry experience or equivalent.
  • Experience combining data from multiple sources for routing/ scheduling tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Enter coded data related to bus routes and stop locations into the TIMS system.
  • Gather data from principals and bus drivers; verify street names, addresses, traffic patterns and networks.
  • Identify one-way streets, speed limits, crossings, medians and prohibited routes for buses.
  • Collect student data for input and correct data inconsistencies.
  • Determine effective bus transportation models by adjusting stops, routes and schedules.
  • Answer questions related to bus routing and stop locations; assist with vendor contracts as needed.

General Definition of Work

The routing technician, under general supervision, performs professional work related to the operation and maintenance of the Transportation Information Management System (TIMS).

NC 11 Hourly Non-Certified Schedule/Full-time, 12 months

Director of Routing/Logistics

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions
  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Enter coded data related to bus routes and stop locations into the TIMS system
  • Gather data from principals and bus drivers related to school bus routes and stop locations; research and verify data on street names, street addresses, traffic patterns and street networks
  • Identify one-way streets, speed limits, railroad track crossings, streets with medians, and streets buses should not travel
  • Gather student data for input for the program, research and correct student data inconsistencies
  • Determine effective bus transportation system models by manipulating bus stops, routes and schedules
  • Research and answer questions related to bus routing and stop locations
  • May assist with vendor contracts
  • Perform related work as assigned or required
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic principles, practices, and methods of computer systems and data entry
  • Knowledge of general methods and procedures of bus routing
  • Knowledge of record keeping practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics
  • Ability to perform a variety of technical computer work
  • Ability to apply and analyze computer data
  • Ability to operate computer terminal and other office equipment
  • Ability to learn the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools street network
  • Ability to maintain records and files
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships; work collaboratively within and across departments, external agencies, and the public
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or G.E.D. with college level computer coursework
  • 2 years technical computer system and data entry exprience
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
