Job Description
The primary role is the technical processing of biospecimens in the Penn Medicine BioBank, with an emphasis on DNA isolations. DNA isolation includes both automated and manual systems, along with all supporting aspects of DNA isolations. Biospecimens will include blood, tissue, and bodily fluids. Sample handling encompasses blood separation, advanced cell gradient, and tissue culture. Under the supervision of the Technical Director and Lab Manager, the candidate must maintain strict adherence to SOPs, QC, and QA policies, consistent with study guidelines and ISBER Best Practices. The role involves facilitating all aspects of sample inventory and distribution, providing special handling and processing of unusual specimens. Additional responsibilities include freezer monitoring and rotating on-call freezer response, shipping biological specimens, record keeping, equipment maintenance and calibration, and ensuring safety compliance in the lab. Candidates must have good communication skills.
